    Hertfordshire’s largest triathlon club Freedom Tri spread their wings both here around the globe this weekend to achieve fantastic results.

    Hitchin Triathlon 400m outdoor pool swim / 20k bike / 5k run

    Hitchin Swimming Pool played host to this years inaugural Hitchin Triathlon organised by the Hares.

    Graham Hill was first over the line for Freedom in 1:02:31; Louisa Suff was 1st female overall in 1:12:08; Gareth Bates 1:10:53; Jenny Lucas 1st in 20’s AG 1:13:24; Helen Cairns 1st in 40’s AG; 1:14:50; Matthew Newton 1:18:30; Christine Caine 1:22:02; Andy Fenton 1:24:02; Emma Clark 1:36:22 and Emma Croxon 1:42:57

    ATW Bedfordshire Triathlon 1500m swim / 40k bike / 10k run

    At Box End water park.

    In the standard distance race Mark Allen was 9th in AG 2:41:13 whilst Emma Kinsey was 1st in AG in 2:44:27. In the sprint distance Chris Belcher unfortunately took a tumble on the bike and had to pull out due to injury.

    IRONMAN FRANKFURT 2.4 mile swim / 112 mile bike / 26.2 mile run

    Suzy Hawkins first for Freedom in 10:54:03 followed by Michelle Reeves 10:57:58; Rob Sedgwick 12:23:36 and Ann Tryssesoone in 13:51:37.

    CHALLENGE ROTH (Germany) 2.4 mile swim / 112 mile bike / 26.2 mile run

    Rob Clarke finally completed this legendary long distance race in 14 hours and 33 minutes.

    Three athletes from Freedom Tri battled the Outlaw Holkham Half triathlon in Wells Next the Sea, Norfolk at the weekend. This half iron distance race comprises a 1.2 mile swim followed by 56 mile bike and topped off with a half marathon. First in for Freedom, Michael Day 165th in 5:16:22 followed by Martin Hawke 208th in 5:21:49 and Simon Jackson who unfortunately endured mechanical issues on the bike but still managed to recover for 531st place in 5:59:43

    Over the weekend GB team qualifiers Chris Belcher and Sarah-Jane Court competed at the European Sprint Triathlon Championships in Dusseldorf. Over an extremely tough course Sarah was 17th in her age group in 1:25:00 whilst Chris was 34th in his age group in 1:15:38.

    Debbie Murphy and Sparky Whittle took part in the 100% Swimming 24 hour swim in Lincoln. Both swimmers managed to complete the 22 mile marathon course within the allotted time, exhausted but happy.

    Over in St.Neots an impressive turnout of Freedom Tri athletes headed over to the Nice Tri standard distance triathlon - 1500m swim / 40k bike / 10k run. First for Freedom in the men's race was Michael Day 16th in 2:29:57 followed by Matthew Sayers 23rd in 2:33:37, Richard Springall 26th in 2:34:19, Chris Clark 28th in 2:35:04, Thomas Sauka 40th in 2:40:38, Robert Evans 43rd in 2:42:41, Dean Heuer 47th in 2:43:49, Ian Robinson 54th in 2:46:06, Chris Mcque 73rd in 2:52:37, Ian Jones 77th in 2:53:46 with Mark Lacy 79th in 2:54:10. Over in the womens race Michelle Reeves was 3rd in 2:40:36 followed by Louisa Suff 6th in 2:47:22. Competing in the sprint event 750m swim/ 20k bike/ 5k run was Amanda Maylin who came 23rd in 1:44:48.

    Freedom Tri clean up at British Triathlon team relays at Bedfordshire

    Box End Park at Kempston (MK) played host to this year's British Triathlon team relays. With a novel race twist, each 3 man team member took turns to race each leg of the race. 3 x 750m swim, 3 x 20k bike and 3 x 5k run. The teams were ranked on their overall cumulative time. The Freedom women's teams had an excellent day out. Emma Kinsey, Helen Cairns & Sarah-Jane Court took gold in the Eastern League and silver overall with 3:54:27. Jane Britten, Rachel Carling & Tracey Palmieri took silver for the league in 4:05:39. Over in the men's race, the bronze medal in the league went to Rob Willis, Stefan lestyn Ford & Simon Jackson with 3:21:35. Other Freedom news, Chris Belcher came 83rd overall (13th in AG) at the British Triathlon sprint championships in Strathclyde in an amazing 1:10:18.

    Freedom Tri thwart 'The Grafman' middle distance triathlon

    Grafham Water in Cambridgeshire was the setting for 'The Grafman' middle distance triathlon organised by Nice Tri events. This long distance race comprises a 1.2 mile open water swim, 55 mile bike plus a 13.1 mile run. Unfortunately due to the 12 degree water temperature the swim distance had to be cut down to 600m. In the women's race Suzy Hawkins placed a fantastic 7th in 4:47:22 (2nd in 40-44 age group); Michelle Reeves was close behind13th in 5:05:10 (2nd in 30-34 age group) with Anne Tryssesoone 35th in 5:33:32. In the men's race new member Paul Sowter turned in an impressive time of 5:11:47 - 221st place whilst endurance specialist Rob Clarke came 386th in 6:07:04 despite feeling unwell on the day. Other Freedom news, Chris Belcher and Sarah-Jane Court took part in the ITU World Championships Qualifier Sprint Triathlon (750m swim, 21.5k bike, 5k run) organised by Human Race at Eton Dorney. Sarah placed 11th in the 30-34 age group in 1:14:33 whilst Chris placed 22nd in the 40-44 age group in1:09:10.

    Women’s Vets team excels at Run Herts Mid Week

    10K Road Race in Bishops Stortford.

    Bishops Stortford played host for the first round in the Mid Week Road Race League. With an impressive 6 points the Freedom ladies Vets team came in 1st ahead of seven other teams. This excellent result combined with the men’s team’s 4th place & women’s 2nd place puts Freedom Tri currently 3rd place overall in division 3 with 8 points.

    Freedom Tri spread their wings at Big Cow Sprint Triathlon in Emberton Country Park.

    An enthusiastic early season turnout saw 17 triathletes from Freedom take part in the Milton Keynes open water Sprint Triathlon (750m swim/20km bike/5km run). First home for Freedom was Steffan lestyn Ford in 11th place in 1:06:13 followed by Michael Day 34th in 1:13:01; Matthew Sayers 40th in 1:14:18; Chris Clark 45th in 1:15:22; Suzy Hawkins 46th in 1:15:22; Richard Springall 53rd in 1:16:26; Martin Hawke 54th in 1:16:37; Greg Cairns 61st in 1:17:44; Rob Sedgwick 65th in 1:18:01; Declan Mccabe 74th in 1:19:38; Mark Allen 78th in 1:19:57; Michelle Reeves 82nd in 1:20:33; Emma Kinsey 92nd in 1:22:27; James Knight 99th in 1:23:59; Helen Cairns 114th in 1:25:59; Christine Caine 153rd in 1:39:34 with Emma Croxon 162nd in 1:58:13. Suzy Hawkins’ impressive performance resulted in achieving 1st place in her (40-44) age group category.

    Three Freedom Tri athletes headed over to the Regatta Meadow in St.Neots to take part in the first triathlon of the season organised by Nice Tri events. This perfect riverside venue is a popular annual event with local triathletes. In the sprint race (750 swim/24k bike/5k run) Michael Day was first home for Freedom with 11th place in 1:17:37; Richard Springall 23rd in 01:23:24. Rob Clarke completed the standard distance event (1500 swim/45k bike /10k run) 105th in 3:04:50.

    2017 Soria ETU Sprint Distance Duathlon European Championships

    GB Age Group athlete Chris Belcher headed over to the ETU Sprint Distance Duathlon European Championships held near Madrid over the weekend. The sprint course (5km run/ 20km bike/ 2.5km run) was extremely challenging and Chris was delighted to complete the race in 1:13:52 for 29th place.

    Milton Keynes Marathon

    On Sunday Jenny Cotter completed her first ever marathon at the Milton Keynes Stadium. After battling the rural out and back course she was extremely proud to finish 19th female in 3:36:17.

    Ashridge Duathlon Race 3

    The Ashridge Estate near Berkamsted played host to the final race in Ashridge Duathlon series. In the sprint race (5km run / 22k bike/ 2.5km run ) Jon Sypula was 85th in 1:34:56 whilst Hannah Sypula was 106th in 1:52:05. Later in the challenging standard distance event (10km run / 44km bike / 5km run) Simon Jackson came 6th in 2:17:16 with Richard Springall 37th in 2:36:29.

    London Marathon

    All eyes were on Rachel Carling who was running her first marathon to raise money for Evelina London Children's Hospital. She came 6545th in 3:51:44 and was overjoyed in raising over £5,550. Also running was Michelle Reeves 8909th in 3:43:22; Dean Heuer 13681st in 4:01:11 and Robert Clarke 30441st in 5:13:40.

    Stockton Duathlon

    Excellent results were also to be had at the Stockton Sprint Duathlon. The race format consisted 5k run/20k bike/2.5k run. Michael Day was 5th in 1:02:55 and Rob Sedgwick 15th in 1:06:26 meaning both qualified for the Duathlon Age Group World Championships in Canada later this year.

    10/4/17 Oakley 20

    Two of Freedom's runners tackled pre-London favourite, the Oakley 20 miler in Bedford.

    Excellent running on the day from Jenny Cotter 214th in 2:41:16 and Rachel Carling 352nd in 2:53:55.

    Brighton Marathon

    Sunday saw the annual Brighton Marathon take place in very challenging conditions. Both high costal winds & temperatures didn't deter

    James Parsons who came 214th in 3:11:38; Angela Philips 804th in 4:32:31; Thomas Sauka 3626th in 4:21:34 and John Phillips 4556th in 5:01:15.
