Sunday saw Letchworth based Freedom Tri host the 7th annual Duck N Dash swim and run aquathlon.

Almost 300 athletes travelled from far and wide to have a quick Duck in Letchworth Outdoor Pool before a quick Dash around Letchworth Common.  For the adults, the race format was adjusted to the sprint distance of a 400m swim and a 5km run, so new course records were guaranteed!

Freedom Tri were honoured to have Lucy Charles, double world champion & pro triathlete presenting our trophies at this years race.

With 5 childrens races for the 8 to 16 year old, adults race, and even a team relay race, Freedom Tri had something to offer everyone!

The 8 year old Tristar Start swam a 50m swim and a 600m run, the 9-10 year old Tristar 1, raced over a 100m swim and a 1km run.  The 11-12 year olds were the third wave in the Tristar 2 category, swimming 200m and running 2km.  The 13-14 year old Tristar 3's were next up, swimming 300m and running 3km.  The final juniors race was the 15-16 year olds, racing the adult distance of 400m swim and a 5km run.

As soon as the juniors finished, the first wave of the adults were up on their way, racing a 400m swim and a 5km run.   Callum Stewart (pictured below with Lucy Charles and Freedom Tri's Chris Belcher) was first male senior in 25:03, Mike Jubb was first male veteran in 29:28, and first male super veteran was Kevin Partridge in 28:30.  In the ladies race, first senior was Nat Lawrence in 27:50, first veteran was Kerry Kitchener in 32:10, and first super veteran was Elspeth Gutteridge in 36:25.

Also racing over a 400m swim and a 5km run were the Team Relay athletes.  Poppy Allen and James Walsh won the mixed relay, with Poppy completing the swim in 6:19 and Wayne completing the run in an impressive 19:25, giving a total time of 25:44.

Congratulations to everyone taking part in this years race, and Freedom Tri hope to see you all again next year.

Freedom Tri would like to thank our sponsors, Tri Sports Letchworth, Suzy Hawkins Sports Massage and Therapy and Friis & Radstone, as well as Stevenage Leisure, North Herts District Council, the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation and Active Letchworth Partnership for all their support.
